Dear JetBlue Inflight Crewmembers,
I wanted to reach out to the JetBlue Inflight Crewmembers to clarify some information regarding Union dues and the Transport Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO (TWU).
First of all, the TWU will not ask you to pay any dues until your first contract is negotiated and ratified by you, the JetBlue Flight Attendants. Your dues are not retroactive and there are no initiation fees for newly organized groups. Union dues check-off language must be negotiated and agreed upon by the Company and the Union. Once you have ratified your first contract, and your contract goes into effect, you will be asked to pay monthly dues or representation fees to fund your Local Union. All collected funds are subject to strict accounting procedures, and Union dues and expenses must be reported annually to the Department of Labor. The amount you will be asked to pay as a JetBlue Inflight Crewmember is a total of $35.00 per month.
As far as the dues breakout is concerned, your Local Union will retain seventy percent (70%) of the collected dues to represent you at all levels with your employer. This amount will be used by your Local Union to pay the expenses of administering your Local’s responsibilities, such as legal fees, contract enforcement, arbitration costs, research, office expenses, lost time, etc. The remaining thirty percent (30%) of your dues are remitted to the International Union to support your Local in other matters, such as arbitration training, safety, lobbying to improve workplace conditions, and supporting volunteer organizers in their efforts.
